A legend prevails that bingo firstly had begun in Italy, as it originated from their traditional lottery game “IL Guicoco del Lotto d’Italia” in the 1500s. The game, later on, moved to France in the late 1700s where it was later known as “Le Lotto”. The game would end when a player filled with energy line either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally with beans and shouted“Beano”.People impressed with this game that when he returned back to his home in New York he started working on creating a new version of the game. His version consisted of a rubber stamp, dried beans, and cardboard. Then he gathered all his friends and started playing this game with them. All his friends loved it so much that their enthusiasm gave this game the name by which it is known today.
One of his friends got so excited and enthusiastic when he found that he had won, that he stood up and cried loudly “ Bingo” instead of “Beano”. With time the game became highly popular and it is said that by the 1940s approximately every person in the country was playing it.
Later the game migrated to where it was greeted with high popularity in the 1960s. Today Bingo has evolved significantly and it is estimated that around 3 million people play bingo in the halls and more than 90 million play bingo online.
